ABOUT

Mission and Philosophy

Taking Back Our Lives is a community based organization that focuses its work on ending domestic and sexual violence. We believe that the most effective way to end this violence is through empowering community members with a grass roots, social justice model that supports participants to become leaders in their own communities.

History

Taking Back Our Lives was founded in 2004 by Heather Flett to create an organization to support the work of Take Back the Halls, a program launched in spring of 2003.  Since its founding, programming has expanded from a semester long program in one high school to supporting schools across Chicago to build comprehensive responses to dating violence.
