01 Aug The lessons Take Back the Halls is teaching
Being a Take Back the Halls Intern was an impactful experience that taught me about boundaries, healthy communication, and the importance of educating youth. Before serving as an intern I would’ve said that I was living the curriculum, or at the very least trying to. However, teaching it showed me I could do a lot better. It encouraged me to reflect on how I was approaching building and maintaining healthy relationships, and it gave me hope that I could do better. It also inspired me to think about how much I would’ve loved to have access to a curriculum like this when I was in high school. That directly translated into my teaching. The lessons Take Back the Halls is teaching are based in empathy and a belief that people can grow into positive changemakers in their communities. Take Back the Halls empowered me to help students in their journey to being changemakers. We don’t expect every lesson to stick, but we do hope it plants a seed that will grow over time. I’m happy to have been a part of Take Back the Halls and the process of tending to those seeds.
